Amazing choir practice tonight at First Christian Church! We sang - TopicsExpress

Amazing choir practice tonight at First Christian Church! We sang through the upcoming Sundays hymns, worked on a new hymn well introduce the following Sunday, and sang a little up-tempo Bach just for fun. We talked about the words of the hymns, specifically about the theological implications of a couple of lines, and about some of the emendations that have been made to some of our hymns over the years, and whether or not these were a good thing. The usual stuff, but . . . But the evening was made more remarkable by a visit from a random stranger, an older gentleman wed never seen before who knocked on the choir room door, asking if we were having a Bible Study. We said no, this is choir, but youre welcome to join us. And he did. He took a hymnal and copies of the other music and sang along. He said Amen at the end of each hymn and told us how much enjoyed praising the Lord. At the end of practice, he told us he was just passing through our area as he tries to get to his 103-year-old father who is about to have surgery in Texas. We prayed with him and for him, and we all wished him well on his journey. Some gave him a bit of cash to help with his travel. He drank some cold water from the fountain, and then he was gone, out into the dark cold night, probably never to pass our way again. I dont really know why, but this visit stirred something in my heart that I had not felt in a while. Even before he told his story, it seemed that his presence brought a different kind of spirit to our choir practice. As I shook his hand just before he went out into the night, I felt a lump in my throat and a tear waiting to roll down my face. A feeling I could not explain. At any rate, I can say that we were visited tonight in a unique and interesting way! And God used it to bless us. Perhaps we will be visited again in the future.
