American Pastor in Iranian Prison Gets Appeal Rejected; Family Disappointed in Obama’s Silence BY ADMIN IN CHRISTIAN NEWS · AUGUST 26, 2013 A court in Iran will not allow an American pastor to get a shorter prison sentence. Instead, the pastor is going to be expected to serve his entire eight years. The decision is a sad one for human rights groups that have been fighting on behalf of Saeed Abedini, a pastor who they believe should not be incarcerated. The pastor lived in Boise Idaho with his family, where he was until 2006. He was sent to prison in Iran for allegedly putting together a network of Christian churches in the country. He has denied the allegations, but remains incarcerated to this day. The American Center for Law and Justice is working for the pastor to help secure his freedom, and they are also helping the pastors’ wife and two children, who all remain in Idaho. Abedini’s wife, Naghmeh, said this in a statement: “In the coming days, our family will be consulting with legal counsel in Iran to determine the next course of action,” the statement said. “The family could appeal the case to the Supreme Court in Tehran or plead for the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, to intervene and pardon Pastor Saeed. From past cases, we know that the decision to release my husband lies solely at the mercy of the Supreme Leader.” The family is also disappointed that President Barack Obama has not intervened in the situation. They are asking for him to speak out about it.
