Amharic Bible project In the Lord’s goodness, the Society has a number of translation and revision projects in progress. One of our newer projects is a translation of the complete Bible into Amharic, the official working language of the Republic of Ethiopia. Our contact is preparing a translation—directly from the Biblical languages—of what, God willing, will be the first faithful Bible in this language. We are thankful to be able to report that this new translation of the Gospel according to John in Amharic has been approved for publication by the General Committee and has been typeset ready for printing. It is currently being proofread by our translator, prior to final checking by the Society’s editorial department. An organisation in the USA with whom we partner on a number of projects is planning to publish 100,000 copies of the Amharic John for free distribution, primarily within Ethiopia. Meanwhile, work is well advanced on the translation of the Gospel according to Luke. We thank the Lord for the progress made on this translation, and for the zeal of our translator who has a great concern to see a faithful edition of the Scriptures made available to the millions of Amharic speakers who reside in his native country of Ethiopia.
