Amnesty: I think we should not grant amnesty to illegals. What I would propose is that we simply make Mexico the 51st state in this great United States of America. Instantly, the border opens but instead of Mexicans flooding here, our military takes out the drug cartels, our businesses flock to Mexico but pay taxes here, the state of Mexico becomes a tourist mecca with all the taxes flowing directly to the U.S. The border then becomes 1/3 the size it is now at the southern end of Mexico. Overland drug trade could be much more easily dealt with, illegal immigrants would be coming north from what is now Guatemala. This access could be much more easily controlled. We would have another angle of attack if Cuba decides to get frisky. America would be responsible for building the infrastructure to modernize Mexico and for establishing a functioning democracy providing millions of jobs to all of us. America has the resources available to reign in the rampant crime in Mexico. The Mexican government does not have the resources. Mexico will never be the tourist attraction that it could be as long as it remains so unsafe for foreign travelers. This addition to the flag would be a great feather in the cap of history for both of our countries.
