Amosun Warns Against Indiscriminate Dumping Of Refuse The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday warned residents of the state to desist from dumping refuse on road medians and other unauthorised places. He said this on a radio programme on Friday, when he was talking about his stewardship in the last three years and three months. To ensure strict compliance, Amosun explained that a total of four thousand new environmental marshals and street maintenance managers would be absorbed into the system for immediate posting to all parts of the state. He also explained that arrangements have been concluded for the commencement of final asphalting and landscaping of newly constructed roads in the state. Amosun added that investment in infrastructure has to be holistic which called for judicious use of the road infrastructure. He said, “Our people need to imbibe environmental ethics and do away with indiscriminate refuse dumping habit. We are now doing the final asphalting of our new roads and giving contracts for the landscaping. “The 2,000 environmental marshals and 2,000 street maintenance managers to be employed would be deployed to the length and breadth of the state, particularly the major cities to ensure that environmental laws are strictly adhered to, because we cannot spend this much on infrastructure and allow it to waste away through misuse.” He expressed the determination of his administration in ensuring that there was no place called rural in the state, stressing that he would construct two new roads in each of the 20 local government areas, while massive grading of other rural roads would also begin in due course. Amosun said the first batch of 10,000 Certificate of Occupancy and other title documents under the Home Owners Charter programme would be ready soon, noting that frantic effort was ongoing on the Geographic Information System being put in place, which would be deployed in taking inventory of all houses in the state and plan ahead. “Home Owners Charter is on course. We will not say what we cannot do. The first 10,000 batch of the applicants will have their Certificate of Occupancy and other title documents ready soon,” he said.
