Amtrak #158 Fire/Collision Damage, 07/01/2013 On Monday, July 1st 2013, northbound Amtrak Silver Star #92 struck a flatbed semi truck hauling steel I-Beams that did not make it across in time on State Road 60 just South of Winter Haven, FL. The truck was hit around 70mph, and the lead locomotive, P42DC #158, got burnt as a result of the truck catching on fire. Both occupants of the semi truck were killed, and the engineer and fireman on Amtrak 92 were not hurt, but shaken. The lead unit was set out in the siding at Winter Haven, and, after a long investigation, the train continued its journey sans one locomotive with a delay of three and a half hours. On Tuesday July 2nd 2013, CSX moved the Amtrak 158 to Tampa Union Station in Tampa, FL on a special train (Symboled CSX W990 with CSX 602 and CSX 3002 for power) for Amtrak and CSX officials to examine the locomotive and investigate. Below is the locomotive I photographed about an hour after it arrived in Tampa. Link: rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/92874/P1020205.JPG
