Amy Kinard tagged me. I love lists and I live in the country. Therefore, Im bored. Therefore, I will fill out the (impossible) list . . . of my top 5-10 favorite albums. Im just gonna rattle off the first few that I think of, kind of like the movie list. Of course a list like this is a little silly because what I consider a favorite this year may change next year . . . but Id say that the majority of these will still be go-to records ten years from now . . . In no particular order: 1. The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St. 2. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffitti 3. Pink Floyd - Meddle 4. Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus 5. Cat Power - The Greatest 6. Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I May See 7. Father John Misty - Fear Fun 9. The Black Keys - Magic Potion 10. Emmylou Harris - Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town . . . and so theres ten. All favorites. All records that get at least a half-dozen plays at my place in a year (year after year). I could easily rattle off another ten. In fact, it would probably be more appropriate to name ten of each of my favorite genres . . . since cool jazz, electronica, avant garde, punk, etc. have not made my list . . . only because the respective albums didnt pop into my head in the approximate minute that it took me to come up with the current top ten. So . . . heres ten more: 11. Miles Davis - Kind of Blue 12. Morphine - Yes 13. Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas (gonna get the LP reissue real soon) 14. Beach House - Teen Dream 15. Morrissey - Viva Hate 16. Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel 17. New Order - Substance (I only have disc one . . . but one day Ill have the complete set.) 18. The Primitives - Lovely 19. Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun 20. X - Los Angeles ( . . . and not one John Prine, M83, Getz/Gilberto, or Chet Baker record was mentioned so the list is still not complete.) Now, I wont tag anybody . . . but if anybody feels like dropping their five to ten on this thread . . . I would certainly be interested in hearing what you like to listen to (and no, it doesnt have to be vinyl only). Maybe Ill even play a few of your favorites on my program . . . J.
