Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/ Lou Gehrigs disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, eventually leading to nerve death. This leads to a loss of ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement. In the later stages of the disease, patients may become totally paralyzed.
