Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou - TopicsExpress

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. In ALS, both the upper motor neurons and the lower motor neurons degenerate or die, and stop sending messages to muscles. Unable to function, the muscles gradually weaken, waste away (atrophy). Eventually, the ability of the brain to start and control voluntary movement is lost. Steve Gleason of the New Orleans Saints is an example of a person you have known to have had this awful disease. Spread awareness and donate –It is a terrible disease and YOU or a family member may become affected. In 90 to 95 percent of all ALS cases, the disease occurs apparently at random with no clearly associated risk factors Representing Cambridge Masters at Harvard #icebucketchallenge to raise awareness.
