An Exciting Programme for Visitors to the Sports Health & Fitness Exchange The eThekwini Municipality’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit has introduced a new addition to their calendar activities for their annual PRC Month celebrations in September. The Sports Health & Fitness Exchange will offer an exciting programme of exercise classes, demonstrations and speakers’ corners, covering topics relevant to sports, health and fitness. Visitors to the event, which will be held on 27 and 28 September 2013, at the Berea Rovers Club in Durban, have a lot to look forward to from the various exhibitors and partners who will be participating in the Sports Health & Fitness Exchange Health professionals from the KwaZulu Natal Department of Health will be conducting BMI and glucose monitoring assessments, as well as hypertension and cholesterol screening tests. Dieticians will be on hand to guide visitors on how to manage these conditions as well as to structure eating plans for overall wellness. One of the leading gym brands in South Africa, Virgin Active, will also be at the Sports Health & Fitness Exchange, offering a variety of activities to visitors. On both days, Virgin active instructors will: • Conduct their new class called 24, a high intensity class is done in 24 min exercising all muscles groups in the body. • Showcase a new class called Nova, which is mixture of yoga and Pilates, giving you a real all round workout. • Conduct a Fitness chat with the event attendees and show them the benefits of exercise. • Give gym demonstrations to educate attendees on how to use gym equipment like spinning bikes, bozu balls and gym sticks correctly and for maximum benefit. The Virgin Active team will also bring meal plans and provide guidance on exercise programmes. Visitors can bring their gym clothes and get active! The adidas award winning adivan will also be at the Sports Health & Fitness Exchange, showcasing their range of sports apparel. Visitors can interact with the adidas team to get expert tips on how to choose the correct apparel for training and exercise. There are also great prizes to be won, courtesy of the Prime Human Performance Institute, based at Moses Mabhida. Visitors to the Prime Human Performance Institute booth stand a chance to win massage vouchers, massage and physiotherapy vouchers as well as altitude bike sessions and bio assessments Geoff Batcheller-Adams, from the institute, is part of the event speakers’ corners line up and will give talks on running biomechanics and how to managing training injuries. For those who are considering careers in the sports, health and fitness industry, The Durban University of Technology, Department of Sports Studies will also showcase their range of courses and give guidance on career paths and opportunities. Visitors will also have an opportunity to interact with local sportsmen from local football clubs, AmaZulu FC and Golden Arrows Football Club, who will also be participating in the activities. Children under the age of 12 enter free of charge and can visit the Kiddies’ Zone for children’s activities.
