An Important Email that I received from a friend in England. Over the last two parliamentary terms I have watched with increasing dismay the villianising of those of low income, the sick, the disabled and those suffering from critical illness and mental health problems with increasing dismay and an utter sense of powerlessness to change what is morally abhorrent to me. In real terms the value of the pound in your pocket has devalued at a frightening rate, wages have stood still whilst the cost of living has risen and our great and good would like a living wage but This week our wonderful chancellor will set out the autumn statement and it is likely that it will mean that those who are already most vulnerable will be subject to even greater suffering in the name of deficit reduction ( which is an interesting claim given how much borrowing has increased over the last electoral term whilst budgets for almost all public services have been in real terms reduced or removed). As a councillor, I didnt become involved in politics to support this or excuse it. I represent an area that is disproportionately impacted by the perverse decision making of both Westminster and Local Government and can do nothing to change it - because all of the above groups are easy sacrifices without much I any consequence. I dont care what your political leanings are, if you are impacted and you dont vote - you are the architect of your own misfortune. politicians openly state you wont vote and can afford to not worry too much about you. If you want to see change. Start by registering on the electoral role and preferably as a postal voter. Then write to your MP or parliamentary candidates and make unequivocally clear that you will vote for the politician that will look out for the interests of those they have forced into the hands of loan sharks and put into the lines of food banks or made homeless and in debt. Vote for whomever you wish, just dont be dismissible!!
