Brick Police make arrests in multiple vehicle burglaries On 8/16/2014 at approximately 0221 hours, Officer’s Dominick Puccio #259 and Mark Catalina #263 responded to the area of the Primrose Condominium Complex, Lanes Mill Road reference two male subjects utilizing flashlights and looking into vehicles that were parked in the area. Upon arrival officers observed to the rear of 19 Primrose Lane a dark colored sport utility vehicle which had the interior light illuminated. A male subject was observed inside the parked vehicle which had the driver’s side door ajar. A second male subject, dressed in dark clothing, was observed between two parked vehicles. Upon being confronted by the officers the two subjects fled on foot. Before fleeing, the subject observed in the vehicle dropped an item that contained loose change. After a short foot chase, one subject (identified as Dahkimalik Farod Short – age 18) of Brick, NJ was apprehended and taken into custody with the aide of K-9 Duke and his handler, Patrolman Paul Catalina. Further investigation led to the identity of the second subject involved (David Jesus Hale Jr. – age 18) of Brick, NJ. It was also determined that Hale had an active contempt of court warrant from this authority for his arrest. Hale was later taken into custody at his residence. Detective Daniel Waleski was contacted and responded to assisted in the ongoing investigation. Through his investigation it was determined that there were additional victims. Investigation revealed that multiple vehicle burglaries were committed from the residential neighborhoods of Green Briar I, Primrose Condominium Complex, Wedgewood Community and Sutton Village. Some of the items taken during the course of the vehicle burglaries were recovered. It should be noted that there was no forcible entry into the vehicles burglarized. All of the vehicles that were entered were left unlocked. Both Short and Hale were charged with the following: Burglary, Theft of Movable Property, and Resisting Arrest along with other individual charges. The Honorable Robert M. LePore J.M.C. was contacted and issued bail in the amount of $50,000.00 with no 10% option for both Short and Hale. Both subjects were transported and lodged in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, NJ. The public is reminded to ensure that all unattended vehicles are locked and secured. All valuable items should not be visible, and if possible not be left in vehicles.
