An active late season monsoon and two tropical cyclones (Norbert and Odile) have resulted in substantial and very beneficial rains across the southwest U.S. over the past 14 days. In fact, in some locations rainfall was 200-400% (isolated 800%) of average! Meanwhile the Pacific Northwest, the northern Great Basin, and much of California continue to suffer from rainfall deficits. As a result, extreme to exceptional drought continues to cover nearly 20% of the west and nearly 82% of California. That translates to more than 37 million people are affected by drought in California.
