An apartment fire erupted early Tuesday at 40th and Q Streets. Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with heavy smoke and flames coming from a second story apartment. No injuries were reported. There were four apartment units in the building. The bottom two apartments received minor damage. The top two units were heavily damaged, but one of those units was vacant. Nine people were displaced but declined assistance from the Kern Red Cross. Damage was estimated at $75,000.
