An appeal hearing begins today for the man jailed for attaching a fake collar bomb to the neck of a Sydney teenager. More from Jean Kennedy. Paul Douglas Peters was sentenced in November last year to at least ten years jail for the attack on 18 year old Madeleine Pulver. In August 2011 he broke into the Pulvers family home on Sydneys north shore and strapped a fake collar bomb around her neck. He then ran off, leaving behind an extortion note. Police were so baffled by the device they called in British military experts.. and it took 10 hours for it to be declared safe. Peters fled to the United States afterwards and had to be extradited to go on trial. Hes appealing against the length of his 13 and a half year maximum jail sentence. The hearing will get underway in a Sydney court today.
