An excellent post by Mr. Mark Rein-Hagen: This is Why I Believe in Roleplaying: 1) Because Roleplaying is the grade school, high school, boarding school, finishing school, academy, college, university, lyceum, seminary and scriptorum of the Imagination. Human society has never really figured out how to teach imagination, we just sort of wait for creative geniuses to come along... often so we can execute them. However creativity is increasingly exactly what modern society needs: new ideas, new approaches and new paradigms - escape hatches from existential traps that exist on a global scale. Roleplaying, sitting in a room and just IMAGINING something, creating a vision in your head, and then creatively solving completely imaginary problems is quite simply the best technology of the imagination ever invented.
