An excerpt from my book - Out on a Limb. Bubur is simply marvellous darlings - cooked over night in a slow cooker and all ready in the morning. Papa ate Nasi Bubur every single day of his life - its the total ultimate in comfort food on duvet day - right up there with the Ready Brek breakfast advertisement. You know the one - the kid with the warm red glow around him walking to school on a cold winters morning. For me though each and every time I eat bubur it reminds me of the time my Father in law called me to the dining room and called me an Asu - Javanese for dog! - which is the ultimate insult to a Muslim which Im not so that was okay!). I was more offended when I landed in JFK airport with the immigration officers screaming - can all you foreigners queue over there! But seriously I was okay with Papa calling me an Asu because everybody was an Asu!.
