An obscure fusion band. We first came across them listed on a late-1970s Embryo concert poster on the wall in Christian Burchards office. Their album was also distributed by Schneeball. Gebärväterli are historically a missing link between Ex Ovo Pro (Mandi Riedelbauch) and Argile (Dieter Weberpals). Text on the albums back cover tells us that they were formed in 1973, becoming established on the Nürnberg jazz scene in 1975, with a variety of Nürnberg music academy musicians passing through the ranks. Because of the constant change, Gebärväterli became musically ever wide ranging, incorporating jazz, blues and rock elements. Some musicians co-existed in a number of other bands (i.e. Ex Ovo Pro, Jazz Workshop Erlangen, etc.) and played as session musicians in local studios. They got their first big break winning as newcomers at the 7th International Jazz Ost West festival in 1978. A very varied fusion album IM TAL DER EMMEN blends Embryo and Zappa/Mothers like rock and jazz mixtures, with a rich instrumental palette, full of solos and invention. Mostly it tends to sound like an instrumental Out Of Focus, but sometimes a little more jazz spiced in the MPS field. Its a grower, indeed, and certainly a choice rarity for fans of jazzy Krautrock to seek out. from The Crack In The Cosmic Egg, CD-Rom edition (Steve & Alan Freeman) - limited edition 300 copy CD hut out! The bonus tracks on this CD edition document the band before and after the album, a huge 25 minutes extra out out-there Kraut jazziness with lots of unexpected inventions and diversions, proving they were a consistently innovative outfit, a feat further witnessed at a reformation gig in 2014 featuring all the original members! https://youtube/watch?v=1wopSbxcrIo
