An open letter to “models” everywhere, Social technology has made it easier than ever for individuals—both men and women—to receive attention for their beauty. If you are beautiful and you consider it your most valuable asset, be careful not to mistake the attention for success. Attention, while undeniably gratifying, is not valuable itself. It is a window of sale, and it is only open for as long as you have beauty to exchange for it. Beauty is an asset. Assets have value. Depreciating assets, like beauty, will eventually have no value unless invested now in assets that will hold or appreciate in their value later. You may receive more and more attention each day, but it will not culminate into tangible worth or build itself into a profitable career without careful planning and meaningful investment. It costs nothing for others to consume your beauty. For you, it costs time.
