An update on the retrial of the penalty phase of the Jodi Arias trial: today she fired her attorneys and will be representing herself, going head-to-head with Juan Martinez, in the battle to determine her sentence of life or death. Those who have followed the case for years, or readers of my book, will recall Jodi did this once before. A notoriously difficult client, in 2011 she fired her attorneys with intentions to represent herself. She later told the judge she was in over her head. Nurmi returned, another lawyer dropped her and was replaced with Willmott. I imagine Jodi may have a change of heart once again. Time will tell. For defense attorneys, its difficult, nasty business representing compulsive liars. For Jodi, any one who doesnt give her what she wants is wrong. Arizona has a screwy, glacially slow justice system. I hope this does not cause further delays. Traviss friends and family deserve to move forward and mourn his memory.
