Anambra electoral melodrama: dangerous visions They think it is - TopicsExpress

Anambra electoral melodrama: dangerous visions They think it is a joke. But with time - precisely, as from 2014 - they will get to know it is not a joke at all. I am talking about Nigerias gradual slide towards political Armageddon, about her politicians endemic culture of rigging elections (at all cost and by all means possible). For me, it is so disheartening that almost one and a half decade of experimenting at this game of democracy, Nigeria is still such a hopeless and seemingly unredeemable amateur at the game. I think the only solution is to amend our electoral law as follows: (1) impose life imprisonment on any convicted perpetrator of electoral fraud or malpractice; (2) impose life ban from politics on any beneficiary or intended beneficiary of such fraud or malpractice, in addition to giving him/her life sentence if proven to have participated directly or indirectly in the fraud or malpractice; (3) the affected political party should be banned from fielding candidates in the relevant election for at least two consecutive elections into the affected office; and finally, establish an independent Constitutional Court to try electoral offenders, in order to avoid the cases getting bogged down in the regular courts. Anything short of this, desperate and dare devil politicians are bound to plunge this nation into chaos.
