And the story continues. Reconciliation....Joan had been in New York for a couple of weeks now. She was doing fine, both her and Alice were getting plenty of freelance work. They were both brilliant photographers and were much in demand. They were both asked by the editor of Our Natural World if they would like to go to Papua New Guinea. The magazine wanted to do a feature on the rapidly disappearing rainforests there. They wanted to do a feature on the magnificent birds of paradise and their vanishing habitat. The magazine hoped to raise the public awareness of the dreadful man made destruction of these wonderful forests. Both girls jumped at the idea. They would be leaving for Port Moresby within the week. They were expected to be there for about a month, but these assignments often took longer than planned, mainly due to logistics. James was finding it really hard to stop drinking. The sessions with Robert were helping a lot but the problem was complex. He was encouraged to try to talk about the dreadful things he had witnessed in Vietnam and later in the Gulf. Trouble was these memories were so firmly locked away in his mind that, even with Roberts most gentle probing, only a tiny trickle of these dreadful memories could be released. Robert said that with James permission a session of hypnotherapy might help. He agreed. The night before Joan was due to fly to New Guinea she decided to phone James. Firstly to see how he was and secondly to tell him of her trip. Even with the abuse she had suffered she still loved him deeply. He told her that he had a drink when he came back from the medical conference. But after he listened to he message on the answerphone he tipped his drink, and the rest of the bottle, away. He told her about the sessions he was having with Robert, and how they were helping him. He begged her to return home. She was so happy to hear all the positive things he was doing to try and stop drinking. then she put a proposal to him. She said that when she got back from New Guinea, if he was still not drinking, then she would return home for a trial period to see how they got on. This made James even more determined to turn his life around.....More to come.
