And they plan, and Allah also plans. And Allah is the Best of Planners. Surah Anfal, Verse 30 Consider the story of Yusuf (A.S.). Left for dead by his brothers, became a slave thereafter and ended up in Egypt. Refused to commit Zina and ended up locked up behind bars. Then became the King’s assistant. Here, Allah shows that our lives are not in our hands. It’s in His total control. No calamity can befall us without His permission and likewise, no good can be upon us without His permission. Yusuf (A.S.) didn’t complain about his position, nor did he ever lose hope in Allah. Yusuf (A.S.) knew that whatever happened was for the best and that this life is indeed a test. Allah brought Yusuf (A.S.) to the lowest he could possibly be, and raised him back up to a place unimaginable. There are so many lessons one can derive from the story of Yusuf (A.S.), but what I wanted to focus your attention on is: the will of Allah. In life we want many things, and likewise we also don’t want certain things. But, we get a mixture of both. We want good grades and then we may get an average grade. We want to not get robbed but then somewhere down the line we do. It’s all in Allah’s control. But that doesn’t mean we can sit there doing nothing and expect to get good grades. We need to tie our “camel” and then leave the rest to Allah. Meaning, we need to do our very best for the goals we want to achieve and then leave the rest to Allah. But, if we don’t achieve it after giving it our all, know that Allah has something better for you, either in this life or the hereafter.
