And they went away in the boat to a lonely place by themselves. - TopicsExpress

And they went away in the boat to a lonely place by themselves. Now many saw them going, and knew them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns, and got there ahead of them. (Mark 6:32-33) Jesus and His Apostles took a boat to a lonely outpost. The reason most people take bats instead of walking is that a boat offers the most direct route. In other words, taking a boat was quicker than traveling by foot. The people were so excited about what Jesus was doing that they ran to His destination and actually beat Him there! Imagine the sight of all those people, young and old, running as fast as they could to Jesus’ destination. How excited do we get when we are coming into the Lord’s presence? Do we do all we can to arrive early? Do we try to look our best for Him? Do we get excited at the prospect of being in His company? The people in the Gospel reading for today were excited about the prospect of being fed again. How much more excited should we be at the thought of being fed with His Body and Blood in the Eucharist, for it satisfies our hunger for eternity and not for a few hours.
