And this . . . this is the opposite of my previous post. Yes, its funny as hell sometimes. Yes, he approaches clever sometimes. But overall, he blew it badly. She was just being a whiny, self-centered dick. He was being a dick in part because he didnt like how she mistreated the staff. So he escalated -- or more correctly, he descended. That undoubtedly made her mistreat the staff even more. The two of them went down and down and down, causing even more mistreatment and work for the staff. The only good thing he did was stepping off the descending steps one step before her. In this I doubt there was any good in his mind. Its more likely he just didnt want the hassle of having to file a police report. Or that he knew the judge and jury would point out he incited her. What he could and should have done is two-fold. First and foremost, he should have quietly complimented the staff on their patience. In a service industry, a good word from a client can easily make your day. Second, if he wanted to change the womans behavior, he should have sent her the wine with a sympathetic note - or anonymously if he couldnt find a non-snarky way of saying something. Sympathy from a stranger can startle even the most obnoxious person into a realization of what theyre doing. It doesnt always work, but at least it avoids making a bad situation worse.
