And whats the verdict? Well hang him anyway. Adolf Eichmanns job was to put people on trains. He did that. Far away with no further part played by Adolf Eichmann, others put most of the train riders to death, or caused their deaths one way or another, but as we all know, theres nothing wrong with a good killing, or some long overdue and well organised revenge, so long as it is done legally, and according to the Old Christian Testament, if not the law. The New Christian Testament is a bit muddy on this sort of thing, but many bibles or behavioural instruction manuals, for humans, because we wouldnt know what to do, or how to behave otherwise, can be interpreted as authorising a good legal killing, in Gods name, and as God clearly isnt around much these days, we feel we must carry out Gods dirty work for God. This is one of the dilemmas and burdens God seems to have left us saddled with. Still, when all said and done, humans are just animals, and we kill and eat animals with relish, so why be squeamish and make a fuss about humans. There are plenty around. In the Philippines there are 1000, well 10, 20 or even 50 thousand less. The story goes that theres a storm coming, and all the people must wait to see if they will die. Those who dont die right away and are homeless, many of them, have no way to escape, no clean water, no shelter, no food, and not much hope, will have to wait a little longer to see if they will live or still die. They are Filipinos, not Europeans, or Americans or any other -ans, so not our responsibility. Their invisible line on a map depicting islands in the middle of a vast ocean with arguably the most powerful storm in history bearing down says theirs, not ours, their governments responsibility. Tough luck. Now that the storm is past, well all put on our good person faces and go and try to rescue the survivors, and their government will do quite a bit too. The other thing that keeps them prisoners of course is they are poor. This is an arrangement the wealthy and our leaders have imposed, and which the rest of us say we are too feeble, too busy, too disinterested, or too- (check the list) to do anything about, but we are good people, and many of us are Sunday Christians, and we will probably pray to God to save the Filipinos, you know, the same God who doesnt show up to take care of the essential killings, so we have to do it for God, but God might show up this time, if enough of us pray, in the name of the one true God, all together now. Adolf Eichmann was evil the Israelis said, and deserved to be put to death for what he did. Not so easy to put people to death though, for what they dont do, but should. Good thing though, or wed be putting our leaders to death regularly, and wed be so busy with elections that they would be as common as football matches. Of course if leaders thought they might be put to death, they might decide to give being leader a miss, skip that choice and settle for just being rich. Are you going to the match this weekend, or the ritual leader killing? You get the idea. The point is that what is normal is normal, and we dont stop to think about normal much, let alone begin to question if normal is right. We dont even seem to question the permanent trap we have designed for ourselves, the no money life sentence trap, and the imaginary lines on maps trap, we accept it all, even if we grumble about it. Of course if disaster befalls us, a disaster we can predict, could have predicted, if we had taken time off from the ballgame, or avoiding thinking about normal, well panic, and complain that the leaders should have done more while there was time, and then well die, some of us, and probably quite a lot will survive to suffer. So are we evil, or just one of the dumbest species around? God sure messed up, if God created us. If I was God I wouldnt want to stick around to be blamed, or to be constantly confronted by what a terrible job I did with my creation. Id be tempted to erase us all and start over, but thats just me. Others will prefer to blunder on, to sleepwalk into the future, to engage in wilful blindness, intentional ignorance, comfort induced indifference, accepting broken as normal, because everyone else seems to. Not much I can do about this on my own. I guess Ill just go on too, one more incompetent amongst a species of losers. See you all at the ballgame, in church, or at one of the ritual killing or dying events. Oh, and after the Israelis killed Adolf Eichmann, they didnt seem to feel any better, they are still full of fear and just as afflicted as a nation, so much so that they have in many ways become like the Nazis to the Palestinians. The persecuted have become the persecutors, and while we know this is wrong, we dont do or say too much about it, because they havent killed nearly as many Palestinians as Jews were killed by the Nazis, and they are doing their ritual killings, their blood lettings, their ethnic cleansing at a much more reasonable and acceptable rate, so it is not too much on our consciences, so we can pretend not to notice and not to mind, and just to prove it, we play games with them, buy their produce and goods, and just generally treat them like they are jolly good sorts, like in the days when we used to do the same things. Well okay, we still do the same sometimes, and actually lots of our friends do even worse stuff, so best not to notice or talk about it. Shush, God might wake up and be upset, you know, because God made us in Gods image. Some badass God that. So what to do this weekend? Go to church and pray for Filipinos, think about Palestinians and Israelis, more praying to God, or just say to heck with it, thats life, what can you do, soldier on, and forget about it. Right, a few beers, pizza and the ballgame it is, now how more normal could we be, just normally normal I guess. Yes, its all guesswork, then they put you in a box and turn you to ashes, and youre gone in an instant. All you leave behind is a trail of paperwork. Words. Next topic. Next.
