Recently a lot of people have been telling me this navy thing is a good move, and they wish they had joined the marines/army/etc some 30 years ago but didnt because of a girl or cold feet or what-have-you and how much better their life may be had they taken the road not traveled, but you know what, they DID travel the road they took, and I know they did because they met me, and I see they did, and they influenced me in damn good ways, better than others certainly did, and much more than they know. They are living wonderful lives that in a way I envy, that I wish I could have, and in both cases our view of our own lives is diminished by dwelling on what could have been had we stayed a different course, but if they had never lived the life they had, I would have never known them, and in this regard I may not be the person I am today without them, good OR bad. These are men and women who have brought LIFE into this world, and compared to the isolated settings of the last few years in which I have know these people (and thereby their influence on me), who have day after day worked and suffered and loved and given everything they have just to survive, I can barely conceive of the impact they have made through their offspring and loved ones. and despite their outlandish fantasies or grievous regrets I wouldnt want any of them to be anywhere else other than where they are, and that reminds ME that I could never be anywhere else other than where I am and to be grateful to those I have met along the way. Words across millenia could not express the love I have for all I have met, friends or foes, for making me into the man I am now. And please please please ALWAYS remember there is someone out there who you mean the world to. You are a vital part of the existence of not just YOUR OWN greatness but the greatness of the human spirit.
