Anene Booysen’s murder accused found guilty Tuesday 29 October 2013 17:24 Anene BooysenSwellendam Circuit High CourtOverbergRapeMurderJudge Patricia Goliath Johannes Kana has been found guilty of the murder and rape of Anene Booysen. The Swellendam Circuit High Court in the Overberg has found that Kana raped and mutilated Booysen in February this year, then left her to die at a housing construction site. Sentencing will take place on Wednesday. The court was packed as Judge Patricia Goliath was delivering her judgement. The case made international headlines because of the brutality of the rape and subsequent mutilation of the 17-year-old victim. Over 20 witnesses were called to testify during the past three weeks. On Monday, both the State and defence concluded their closing arguments. State Prosecutor Maria Marshall told the court that Kana had a motive to kill Booysen, as she refused to have intercourse with him, prompting him to rape her. She said he also mutilated her, which later caused her death, in an attempt to prevent her from alerting the police. Presenting his argument, defence attorney Pieter du Toit says the only thing placing Kana at the scene was his cap. He also said that the two witnesses who testified that Kana was seen leaving the pub with Booysen, were not trustworthy and had lied in court. sabc.co.za/news/a/4475390041a2498da84faf17c876c1c7/Anene-Booysen%E2%80%99s-murder-accused-found-guilty-20132910
