Animals As Leaders You probably never heard of AAL if youve been hibernating. Wow, I absolutely love these guys. They are a three piece prog-rock instrumental band led by guitar hero Tosin Abasi. I was actually lucky enough to have heard of them very early on. After Abasi left D.C. based Reflux he joined forces with Misha Mansoor from Periphery to record the bands self-titled album in 2009 with the aid of electronic drums. For the tour guitarist Javier Reyes was summoned and Navene Koperweis took hold of the drum kit. In 2011 they released their sophomore effort, this time with all members pitching in, called Weightless. A year latter Koperweis left to start his own eletronica project called Naveine K, and was replaced by Matt Garstka, whos actually a gospel drummer! Animals as Leaders have toured with the likes of Meshuggah, the Deftones, and many more.
