Announced in #Saudi that the moon for #Eid will be sought on Tuesday night [By The Salafi Centre of Manchester] 1. It has been announced in Saudi that the moon for Eid will be sought on Tues night which means we fasted for 28 days if it is spotted. 2. This can happen & it does not necessitate opposition to any hadeeth as the Messenger said: “Fast when you see it & stop when you see it.. 3. So if the moon is sighted, we cannot fast on the day of Eid. This happened in the time of Ali (radhi Allaahu anhu) & they made up a day. 4. Waleed bin Uqbah said: “We fasted in the time of Ali without sighting the moon (at the beginning of Ramadaan) 28 days… 5. He cont’d: “And when it was the day of Fitr, we were commanded to make up a day (later).” (Abdur-Razzaq, Ibn Abee Shaibah, al-Bayhaqee) 6. Imaam Ibn Baaz said: In a situation of fasting a deficient month of 28 days the Muslims must make a day. See al-Fatawa, 15/159. 7. If the moon is not sighted on Tues night, but it is sighted on Wed then we’d have fasted 29 days and Eid is Thurs & there is no problem. 8. If the moon is not sighted on Tues nor Wed evening, then we fast Thurs and Eid is on Friday. And in that there is also no problem. 9. Some people with a sickness in their hearts will cast aspersions against Saudi Arabia due this affair. This is not permitted at all. Why? 10. Because Saudi acted upon the Prophetic texts which state that when there is cloud cover 30 days of Sha’baan must be completed. 11. Saudi fulfilled the duty that was upon them from the hadeeth of Allaah’s Messenger & it is Allaah who controls the affairs. So no blame. 12. Likewise those who call for astronomical calculations to be introduced due to this issue are upon falsehood. The Sunnah is to sight. 13. We are forbidden from innovating in the Religion, even if a mistake is made in ijtihaad. Moonsight calculations are a wicked innovation. 14. Moonsighting calculations were possible in the time of Prophethood but neither he nor his Companions used them. He taught us what to do. 15. He (salallaahu alaihi wassallam) taught us to look with the naked eye. Whoever changes from that has opposed the Sunnah & is misguided.
