Anonymous post from someone who is looking for help from Australia and the Australian Medicare System. Also Remicade users and mums taking Remicade through pregnancy. I am a 26 year old female and have had Crohns for 7 years. I have tried many medications over the years and for the past 5 years have been taking Remicade by infusion every 8 weeks. When i receive the medication i am a normal functioning person (whatever normal is) for about 4 weeks. By week 5 im heading down hill and experiencing all the side effects of Crohns once again. I work full time in an active roll, and i find it very difficult to have the capacity to function at work while i have these horrible sensations going on in my body. The problem i have is Australian Medicare will only fund the medication for every 8 weeks. Being about $5000AUD per infusion. In addition to only writing 3 repeats at a time. So here i am at week 9 of the cycle waiting for medicare to approve another 3 repeats. I find it frustrating that i have found a medication that works and has potential to improve my quality of life but due to red tape restrict the dosage. Has anyone els had a similar experience? While i seek for your advise i would love to hear from any mums who have had babies whilst on remicade and their experiences with this drug through pregnancy. Thank you!
