Another Bank Holiday weekend is upon us and that means 3 open days here at the fort. This weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1 and we will commemorate this landmark with a number of dedicated exhibits and events. Jerry Conroy will display his Journey of Remembrance exhibit all weekend with talks both Sunday and Monday, at 1230 hours, on the Irish involvement and immense sacrifice in World War 1, Capt. Brian Smith returns on Sunday and Monday to proudly display WW1 army items issued to his father at that time. Sunday and Monday will see a display of model tanks and trains by Brendan Buckley and at 3pm in the Square, Sunday, a Cheile will take place with the Lough Cheile dancers - Cheile Cois Locha . Monday August 4th a special power point presentation outlining events which unfolded from 1914-1918 commences at 1230 hours and will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony to the memory of all those from County Cork who fought through or died during the First World War. The people of County Cork are invited to attend the seminar and ceremony and are encouraged to bring a memorial wreath or floral tribute to be laid by family members. Artist Kerry Collins will, by popular demand, remain in our Gallery for the weekend and will be joined by up and coming local young lady Eliza Van Veen. Fort open from 1200 to 1700 hours, Saturday, Sunday and Monday with last entry at 1615. Hope to see you.
