Another day of rehearsals in Hobart, Tasmania for the Death or Liberty documentary. The film is due to be screened on TV in Australia, Ireland and Britain later this year. One of the artists who I am collaborating with is the wonderful Lisa ONeill who has written a brilliant song from the perspective of a young transported Irish girl talking to the hanged corpse of Phillip Cunningham. Transported to Australia for his part in the Irish rebellion of 1798, Cunningham fomented revolt in the penal colony and was hung and gibbeted for his refusal to accept the authority of the British Empire. Lisa also made one of my favourite albums of last year Same Cloth or Not from which this track comes.
