Another great weekend at Fort Campbell! Friday night was the Battalion Trunk or Treat event. Dozens of Soldiers lined the battalion athletic field with their Halloween decorated vehicles while kids of all ages (sporting all types of great Halloween costumes) moved from trunk to trunk playing games, singing, dancing, and collecting candy from the (equally well costumed) Soldiers. The event was a huge success and a lot of fun! Our company commander dressed as Father Time and put together a very popular game in the back of his van with an equally popular surprise in the top left corner of the game (I zoomed in for you). Every time the kids scored a point this furry face made an energetic appearance! Saturday morning was an exciting morning for me personally. Inspired by my incredible wifes courage in committing to running a half-marathon, I jumped at a very unique opportunity to run a half-marathon myself! My teammate Adam and his wife Sarah signed up for the Go Commando Half-Marathon months ago, but at the last minute had to pull out (partly) due to poor weather (this super athlete couple had planned to push their 8-week old twin boys through the entire race). Consequently, Adam generously offered me his bib number, so I ran in his name (and in his age group). As for the race itself, let me be the first to tell you, half-marathons are HARD! The weather was cold and rainy, and the course was very hilly, but the race was incredible! I loved every miserable minute of it and Im so proud to have accomplished such a difficult challenge! Adam and Sarah refused to let me buy their bib number from them, but rest assured, a complimentary dinner and/or baby-sitting reciprocation is in the works. I hope I did them proud, but knowing them, they both would have beat my time by 15-20 minutes. Thanks again guys!! As for Jessica, Im so proud that she has committed to such an extreme goal and (having now experienced it myself) Im overly confident that she will not only be successful in completing the race, but also excellent in her performance! For those unfamiliar with my wifes competitive drive, trust me when I say that my verifying this goal as HARD will only motivate her to work HARDER to achieve it. Keep up the good work sweetie! - Chad P.S. The last picture posted reflects the moment when the physical pain of completing a half-marathon became real to me. Id hold this aspect of truly completing the race over Jessicas head, except she too proudly drives a standard and with therefore also face the dreaded drive home.
