Another search mission requested. We have another search mission for an ANGLICO Marine, LCpl Steve Bennet. In late 2009, we launched a search mission to reconnect ANGLICO backseater Jon Patterson with Warren Fuller decades after Patterson’s OV-10 shootdown. Fuller saw the shootdown from his aerial recon over the DMZ and flew over to fend off attackers until Patterson was rescued. We can do this again if everyone searches their memory banks. In January 2010, we were successful with the assistance of some TWS sleuths, notably George Reilly. Mark Mitchell requested our assistance with a similar search mission, as follows: On 10 May 70, Capt. Gerald Lemons, 183rd Recon Apl. Co. Seahorse piloted his Army Birddog from Phan Rang to Song Ba RVN, to pick up USMC LCpl Steve Bennet. The mission w/Bennet, as naval battery fire observer, was a target in the area of Le Hong Fong Forest. As Bennet accurately adjusted fire from a US destroyer, the Birddog was caught in accurate enemy fire, wounding Bennet and disabling the plane. Capt. Lemons was able to fire off his 4 WP rockets moments before crashing. Capt. Lemons, upon crash, was able to extract Bennet and for the next 4 hours evaded hostile forces before their May Day was received & a Dust Off medevac arrived and rescued the crew w/a jungle penetrator. From there, they were flown to Cam Ranh Bay. Two days later Lemons visited Bennet at the hospital and Bennet showed Lemons his Purple Heart. That was the last time these men met. Please assist me in reuniting these 2 brave and very lucky men. Mark Mitchell 183rd RAC Seahorse TOUR 69-70, USA
