Another wee mystery concerning the lands around Cambusnethan - TopicsExpress

Another wee mystery concerning the lands around Cambusnethan Priory! There is a strange perfectly circular stand of trees north-east of the Priory, known locally as the Circle Wids - thanks to Kenny Malcolm for bringing this to our attention. Then Robert Renie Kirk posted this photo of the works at Carbarns shortly after completion in the mid 1930s, and you can see another circle woods at the top right. That particular one is no longer there, looks like some sort of plantation is there now. Looking at the aerial photos from the 1940s, the second image, the two Circle Wids are clearly shown. Does anyone know what they were? Id like to think they are of some archaeological significance! Considering the other finds in the area, it could be very interesting! They could just be shelters for cattle, I suppose, but they take up a lot of room on otherwise arable land.
