Any ideas on what makes my horses feet so different? My mares feet crumble in the hot summer, Im curious why her black feet crack and break while my geldings white feet stay nice. Last year we blamed it on my riding and I used a ton of conditioner trying to not have to put shoes on. This year Ive ridden once a month on soft ground for 20 min of walking. granted I did not apply conditioner this year. My geldings feet look beautiful my mares look horrid. Im due in less than 6 weeks so I cant change much. The horses are on the same vitamin supplement. In the winter my geldings feet crumble and my mares get nice. My gelding was getting 2 lbs haystack special blend and my mare 1 lb sweet feed daily. When my gelding got sick he refused to eat his special blend so hes now on beat pulp and alfalfa pellets because he eats it, my mare is getting plain beat pulp because its convenient and her last two bags of sweet feed had bugs. Theyve been switched since mid August so not likely affecting their feet yet.
