Anyone seen Elysium? We watched it last night. District 9 was never the most subtle of films when it came to social/political metaphor, but Blomkamps debut was massively entertaining, with great dollops of humour, tragedy and action. Elysium looked wonderful, Damon is always a very likable presence, Jodie Foster was great in her role and District 9 star Sharlto Copley was superbly menacing. But as a whole, this just didnt quite work for me. Heavy handed commentary and a little bit of a mess. Far from terrible and way better than other recent sci-fi lets downs like Oblivion and the second half of Prometheus but it really should have been better.
