#ApeSpotlight January boy: Some have asked us why Stryker is so bald. The good news is that he was raised by his chimpanzee family from day 1. His mother Jessie, has been very attentive to the baby over the years... so much so that she frequently groomed him, even to the point of removing his hair! At night in his mothers nest, while Stryker slept... Jessie groomed him for hours. Each morning we noticed he had a little less hair. The activity of grooming is very positive, but Jessies obsession with plucking her babys hair, still lingers today. At nearly 10 years now, Stryker visits other groups at the sanctuary for play and socializing. If hes with them for a week or two... his hair begins to grow back. But as soon as he goes back to his family group, he wakes up bald again!
