Apologies for the long post, but it needs to be out there! As a Crossfitter, I receive a more-or-less constant stream of information about how bad Crossfit is, that its a cult, and how it does nothing but causes injuries. Now most people are familiar with the fact that I get fired up particularly easily (one of my many charming traits :P) but in the case of Crossfit, I really dont take heed of what others opinions are, particularly those who get their information from the internet or news articles. Sure people get injured doing it, like in every other sport. Sure there may be some exercises we do that may seem weird, but they each have their benefits for improving functional strength, one of the main goals of the sport. And in regards to the cult rumour? Sure it might appear that way, but I see this as a good thing. My fellow athletes from Crossfit Uncut and other Crossfit gyms are some of the nicest, most genuine people I have ever met, and I look forward to the daily banter just as much as I look forward to the daily workout. People can bash it all they want, but I really dont care deep down, because I have never been as strong or as fit or in better physical condition as I am now, I feel amazing. Previously I have competed at a national level in rowing and at an international level in underwater hockey, and even when I competed as a member of the NZ U19 Womens Underwater Hockey team that won gold at the 2011 World Age Group Underwater Hockey Champs, I still was nowhere near as fit or strong as I am now. I love Crossfit, and Im not afraid to admit that, because what I have achieved as a result of doing this sport for only a short time has proved to me that it works. Having said that, I do appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and for this reason I try not to let it get to me when people make fun of the sport I work so hard for. Just dont bother trying to insult me about it, because chances are Im not listening :P. Ill leave you with Dom Mazzettis interpretation of Crossfit, which, although not an accurate representation of the sport, is really quite witty and enjoyable. And remember, dont judge something until youve tried it! https://youtube/watch?v=qnjYyfkcaNI
