Aposelemis River, River Water Dam and Gorge // Heraklion Region, Crete // Greece Aposelemis River is one of the largest rivers in Crete, carrying the waters of Lasithi Plateau to the sea. In the area between Xerokamares and Agriana, a deep Gorge is formed, full of plane trees and other large trees, which come in perfect combination with the groves in the area. The area of Lagada where the gorge is situated is full of monuments, old aquaducts,traditional villages and Byzantine churches. In 2007, the greek government started building an huge lake in order to supply Heraklion and the surrounding areas with drinking water. Based at the foot of the Dikti Mountain this is a very fertile part of Crete. Even though Aposelemi is close to the touristic area, the gorge is an oasis of silence and beauty..
