Apparently 3 steps back wasnt enough. Im pretty sure Noah turned around and ran. He went to the cath lab to coil collaterals. But when they got there, they realized Noahs Glenn pressures and pulmonary hypertension were the worst theyve ever been. They decided not to coil the collaterals, because it would raise the pressures in his Glenn even more. They had two options, start an IV drug called flolan, which is a vasodilator... And wouldnt hopefully reduce the pulmonary hypertension enough to relieve Glenn pressures, or take down his Glenn. del Nido started the flolan, and gave it only a few minutes.. If it didnt work, hed have to take down the Glenn. It took over an hour to get the medicine from the pharmacy, but they got it.. And started it. Noah didnt respond at all. del Nido decided the best thing for Noah was to take down his Glenn, tonight. He felt putting it off would just land Noah back on ECMO before morning.. And Noahs entirely too sick to just wait around. Noah had a BT shunt placed last year, at a little more than 2 months old, because the area below Noahs pulmonary valve is smaller than it should be, and he wasnt getting adequate blood flow to his lungs. del Nido can put him back to a BT shunt tonight, but its not quite as efficient as the right ventricle doing the work, so hes really hoping that he can work with Noahs pulmonary valve, and give it what it needs to be able to function properly. The hope is that Noahs right ventricle has the highest pressure, and can push against his pulmonary resistance better than anything else. Noah needs that right now. A BT shunt will work if its the only choice, but the RV will work best. Noah was taken down to the OR a little before 9 tonight. I got a call around 10:30 telling me that Noah was successfully on bypass. It took around 2 hours for Noahs Glenn to be performed.. Along with quite a few other details.. So Im hoping that Noah will be back off bypass within the hour. Please pray for Noah. Were out of options. He NEEDS this to work. taking him back to where he was 3 months ago, when he was stable, is his last option. Also pray for Dr. del Nido. He spent the entire day in the OR performing a bivent on another heterotaxy babe, and now hes spending the night doing an emergency surgery on my baby. Im sure hes tired. And my babys life is in his hands. Im so scared, Im so afraid of the news Ill hear within the next few hours. Ugh. Ill update as soon as I know more.❤️💙
