Susan Helms Susan--or General Helms to you--is in fact not only a real person, but an astronaut to boot. I have never been romantically involved with an astronaut, little less one who was so bold as to contact me to express her attraction to my apparently many qualities. Susan Jane Helms, a lieutenant general in the United States Air Force, is a former NASA astronaut, and was not fibbing when she introduced herself as the commander of the 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic). As well, she was the commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. My new love partner-to-be was also a crew member on five Space Shuttles that were sent into outer space. My personal familiarity with and affinity for outer space must have been what first gave her the notion that we might be simpatico. However, my hopes have been tarnished after doing a bit of due diligence on my future-wife-to-be. This raised my crack journalist radar and momentarily slowed down my pitter-pattering heart. I then was shocked to learn that Susan has been two timing me even before we have met. Apparently she has sent similar love notes to numerous others, according to an internet search. My, how fleeting love is. One moment you are swooning and strutting, visions of bright new horizons in your future, and the next you come crashing down to earth, as it were. If you change your wicked ways, Susan, call me.....
