Apparently my limited FB skills have failed me again. Unable to hide my birthday, many of you seized upon the opportunity to wish me a happy one. It was, in part due to each of you. I take joy in your shared joyful moments, commiserate in difficult ones, and share with most of you the pursuit of the American Dream. What I often share with you that differs from your own beliefs and values, each of you are kind enough to agree, be silent, or to gently (or occasionally, not so gently) disagree. Whether or not we like what others are saying, I have learned to accept our differences and attempt to learn something more from each of you. I am on many matters a conservative, except about higher education. The dismay I have expressed here about the slow defunding of Louisiana higher education, is out of character for me. I see the opportunity to learn being extinguished for children of poor and working class families, as I watch colleagues who spent many years seeking advanced degrees thrown out like garbage. And since I dont like to curse, just know that I am most upset about this. Well, what makes me feel a lot better is that so many of you have earned degrees and/or military ranks, and have done wonderful stuff with your lives. And in my seventh decade, I feel both lucky and deeply blessed to know you. Every single one of you. God bless you.
