April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Set up in 2001, Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) sets out to promote jazz both as an historical and a contemporary art form. What better way to celebrate JAM than to listen to the incomparable Etta James singing live a song voted as one of the top ten jazz tunes of all time. Although At Last was originally written for the 1942 musical film Orchestra Wives by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren, James made the song her own in 1961 -- improvising on the melody and adding her own jazz-inflected vocals alongside the swooning strings. Since then, countless couples have used her romantic rendition to make their Big Days memorable – many of them at wedding ceremonies and receptions held at the Hotel. Jazz is a celebration of freedom and creativity so parties and dancing are positively encouraged!
