Are we clothed with humility? 1 Peter 5:5-7 (NKJV) 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble. 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Human nature says: don’t let anyone walk on you. Stand up for your rights. Submission to one another can sound more like being a doormat. Jesus was a good example of true submission and humility. He spoke the truth to the religious leaders while maintaining respect for their authority. He knew how to set boundaries in relationships. He was in perfect submission to His Father. He submitted himself to his disciples by being a loving servant while leading them. God gives grace to the humble. The way UP in God’s kingdom is DOWN. Proverbs 15:33 says the fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility. Humility is a choice we make. Proverbs 18:12 tells us that before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility. We can choose to love in the midst of being wronged or misunderstood knowing we are following the way of Christ. In Luke 6: 31-32 (MSG)He said: Here is a simple rule of thumb for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them! If you only love the lovable, do you expect a pat on the back? Run-of-the-mill sinners do that. The more grace we give, the more we receive!
