IMPORTANT!!!! CHIRUNDU ELEPHANT PROGRAM - PATROL UPDATE FOR 10TH NOVEMBER 2014. via Nic Coetzee Jecha Point Fishing Lodge.. This report is to fill in for a day we missed out as Nic had to come to Harare. His son Danie filled in and I received the patrol report yesterday. My bad for the extra delay but its worth the wait......WOOHOO :) Nic is returning to Chirundu today and from the sounds of it there has been some activity. It may be as we suspected and with the vacuum of these 3 bulls departing we have some new contenders to try fill their void. We always knew this was highly likely but for now we will enjoy this small victory and wait for the hard data from Nic to assess what is really going on for yesterday and today. KEEP LIKING & SHARING EVERYONE!. Those 2 little button clicks are helping me to raise the awareness levels and reach people from all over the world. I am still looking for a link/introduction into a school somewhere if anyone can help with that. We would love to teach a younger generation about the human/wildlife conflicts that are happening not just in Zimbabwe but all over Africa. If you check Bine Grigels/Elephant Warriors Wall I think you will see a perfect example of what happens in the absence of a conflict management programme. (Hullets sugar plantation Mozambique) Not for the faint hearted BUT certainly avoidable if the there is any corporate responsibility left in the world. AM - No elephants Noon - No elephants PM - No elephants So if we count that patrol report along with the one from the 11th, we had 2 days of elephant free Chirundu. A small victory but still proof that behavior modification works and is well worth the effort. If you consider we have spent less than $1900 usd to get this off the ground then I see it as a victory. An ongoing battle none the less but we are far from over with this. I am hoping we will find the funding to take this to the next level. Watch this space and a HUGE THANK YOU to you all for the support :) Have an incredible weekend :)
