Are you new to Wauconda? Are you new to politics? Have you wanted - TopicsExpress

Are you new to Wauconda? Are you new to politics? Have you wanted to get involved? Do you have questions? Please come to a village board meeting - every Tuesday at 7:00 and ask questions or just listen.... For instance, this evening the board will be having a special meeting to approve village board meeting minutes. Why is this significant? Because the village is so behind approving minutes they do not want to wait till the next regular board meeting to approve. Why? Because by law board meeting minutes (not closed session) are to be approved within 30 days and posted 10 days after, which are well overdue. Movement is now being made on backlogged minutes because of the Open Local Illinois organization - a group of non-partisan individuals dedicated to educating the public on transparent practices in local government. They have been in contact with our village on several occasions trying to get the village to approve these minutes before the Attorney General gets involved. Then theres also the issue of closed session minutes - they are to be reviewed every six months and if there is an issue that is no longer outstanding or sensitive, they are to be approved and released. In the almost year that Mayor Bart has been in office, ZERO closed meeting minutes have been released. While I believe village employees and trustees are doing what they can to move forward, and approving these minutes is definitely a step in the right direction, I also believe the dysfunction in the village since the new mayor has taken office speaks volumes. I believe the current situation with the meeting minutes is symbolic of what is going on in our local government. Releasing minutes is the essential form of communication with residents. This is Transparency 101 folks. Organization 101. Since our mayor is ultimately responsible, he should be ashamed that vigilant residents and an outside organization have had to lean on the board just to get something so simple up to date.....What does this mean for everything else going on in the village?
