Are you stuck in a rut with your exercise routine? Or have you reached a plateau with your weight loss or fitness goals? The underlying issue is most likely a lack of exercise variety. By making minor changes, you can boost your motivation, improve your adherence and be on the right path to reaching your goals. Switching your activity mode will broaden your physical abilities by stressing the body in a new and novel way. Thats why, after trying a new type of activity, you sometimes feel sore in places where you had forgotten you had muscles!! Here are some tips on mixing up your exercise routine: • If you like long-distance running, try adding some sprint intervals to your runs • If you’re a free weight fanatic, change it up by using resistance bands or alter the order in which you perform your exercises • If you are into cycling, try adding some steep hill climbs into your rides each week With any activity, remember to progressively overload your body (with intensity, frequency and/or duration) to avoid plateauing
