Areas of moderate-to-heavy smoke in parts of the upper Rio Grande - TopicsExpress

Areas of moderate-to-heavy smoke in parts of the upper Rio Grande River Valley this morning impacting Creede, South Fork and Spar City have led our forecasters to extend the WILDFIRE SMOKE HEALTH ADVISORY for PORTIONS of SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO for another day (thru 9 a.m. Thursday, July 4). The smoke is expected to gradually lift later this morning, improving air quality conditions in those locations. Isolated showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening may result in erratic and gusty winds. However, mostly light-to-moderate smoke mainly confined to areas in close proximity to wildfires are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening. Decreasing thunderstorm activity Wednesday evening may result in the return of moderate-to-locally-heavy smoke Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. We also are tracking the East Fork Fire about 30 miles southeast of Montrose. Northwest winds today may push light-to-moderate smoke to locations south and east of that fire. Drainage winds redeveloping Wednesday night may result in light-to-moderate smoke north and northwest of the fire late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, possibly impacting Cimarron, Delta, Montrose, and Olathe.
